Business Internet Service FAQs

What is the difference between a Dynamic IP and Static IP?
Static IP does not change when you log onto your WOW! Business Solutions modem, whereas a Dynamic IP may change between sessions. A Static IP is a numeric, fixed Internet Protocol address always associated with your computer.

Is the speed of WOW! Business Solutions Cable Modem Service comparable to DSL?
WOW! Business Solutions Cable Modem service is consistently fast no matter where your business is located, whereas DSL service typically gets slower the farther your business is located from the telephone company's central office. Accordingly, even if the local DSL provider advertises high speeds, these speeds may not be available in your area. Even if you are located in the heart of a DSL service area, it's unlikely that your local DSL provider can offer the same peak download speed performance available from WOW! Business Solutions.

How do I get more e-mail accounts or a larger e-mail box?
Additional accounts are available by simply calling your local Business Account Manager or Business Solutions Support at 1-888-969-4249. If more storage space is required, WOW! Business Solutions offers expanded storage options as well for Evansville customers.

What is the process to upgrade my Internet connection speed?
It's very easy. Simply call your local Business Account Representative or our WOW! Business Solutions Support at 1-888-969-4249. Often upgrades can be handled over the telephone and can be completed in 24 hours.

I can not connect to the Internet.
A simple reboot of the modem, computer and router can sometimes fix this issue. Unplug the power to the modem and computer. If you have a router, unplug the power to the router also. After unplugging the power to these components wait one minute then restore power to the individual components. Restart your computer. If this doesn't resolve the issue, call Business Solutions Support at 1-888-969-4249.

What is a Dynamic IP?
Dynamic IP is a numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address that is temporarily assigned to your computer or modem only for a specified duration. A Dynamic IP often changes on your computer between Internet sessions as opposed to a Static IP that does not change.

Why would I want a Dynamic IP?
Dynamic IP is the default IP setting on most computers, making network configurations simpler. Additionally, if outside users do not need to access your network, a Dynamic IP will likely satisfy your businesses needs.

Is my WOW! Business Solutions Cable Modem Internet speed guaranteed?
WOW! Business Solutions prides itself on delivering quality service and closely monitors our network to ensure maximum performance. However, the consistent delivery of speed varies based on many factors, including customer specific equipment configurations, potential network congestion during peak loads and Internet activity beyond the WOW! Business Solutions network. Therefore, actual customer speeds may vary and can not be guaranteed.

Can I choose a Dynamic IP or Static IP with WOW! Business Solutions Internet service?
Yes, the choice is yours. WOW! Business Solutions provides a Dynamic IP address or a Static IP with Internet service. A Dynamic IP address will be assigned unless you request a Static IP address.

Is my connection shared?
All connections to the Internet are shared at some point. Since all connections are shared, providing a high-speed Internet experience depends on your ISP's network capacity, scalability, and overall architecture. Our network, locally, and our gateway to the Internet are designed to be highly scalable, providing increased network capabilities as demand increases.

How many computers can I connect to my cable modem service?
As many as you need. WOW! Business Solutions provides the cable modem and you can network as many work stations as needed by connecting the modem to a router. We would be happy to recommend local companies that sell and service routers.

Does WOW! Business Solutions offer high-definition television? Does it require specialized equipment?
WOW! Business Solutions is proud to offer crystal clear high-definition television. A high definition set-top box is necessary to receive high-definition programming.

Does WOW! offer Digital Video Recorders?
WOW! currently offers both Standard and High-Definition Video Recorders.

What are the features and benefits of a DVR?
The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) puts TV on your schedule-so you can watch what you want, when you want to watch it. With the touch of a button on your remote control, it automatically finds and digitally records your favorite shows. There's no need to remember to program your VCR, track schedule changes, or fuss with videotapes. And you won't miss a minute of your favorite show or the big game because the DVR gives you the power to pause live TV and do your own instant replays. You can even fast-forward and rewind your recorded programs. DVR turns any TV into a PIP (Picture in Picture) TV.

What is Secondary Audio Programming (SAP)?
A secondary audio program (SAP) service is carried along side a television channel as an alternative to the standard audio that accompanies the video portion of a program. Listeners can choose this secondary audio signal through either a television, a stereo VCR equipped to receive SAP signals, or a special SAP receiver. A portable SAP receiver allows traveling individuals to catch all the audio from their favorite television show. The SAP feature allows a TV station to broadcast other information to the viewer through the audio receive system. That other information could be the same program audio in another language, or something completely different, such as weather information or Descriptive Video Services (DVS) for the visually impaired. DVS is a service where a narrator describes the action of a scene during pauses in the dialogue. Audiences can hear that an actor sadly buries his face in his hands, for example. As another example of S.A.P. application, ABC regularly provides Spanish audio commentary during "World News Tonight" and "Monday Night Football" as well as other selected sporting events and specials. They do this using the Secondary Audio Program (SAP). Viewers who had the SAP feature turned on could hear the game in Spanish.

Why I am only getting sound in Spanish (SAP)?
1. If sound is in Spanish, click settings on remote. 2. Click more settings (yellow triangle on remote). 3. Arrow down to the Language heading. 4. Highlight SAP, arrow to the right. 5. Choose disable. 6. Choose Accept (yellow triangle on remote). 7. Press select on the remote.

What equipment would I need to receive Digital Programming?
A digital receiver is necessary to receive Digital Programming.

WOW! Digital Adapter

What is a Digital Adapter?
A Digital Adapter is a one-way video device that allows an analog TV to display channels that have been transmitted to the home in a digital format. The Digital Adapter has a "Cable In" and "To TV" output only. Your TV watching experience should be the same on that TV as it is today. The Digital Adapter does not support any advanced video services such as: HD channels, the Interactive Program Guide, nor does it offer additional channels available with Digital Basic service. The Digital Adapter comes with an easy to use remote control and is much smaller than current receiver boxes.

How do I know if my TV needs a Digital Adapter?
If your TV currently has WOW! digital equipment (a WOW! Standard Digital Receiver or HD Receiver), you do not need a Digital Adapter for that TV. You need a Digital Adapter to receive the Basic Cable channel lineup on your TV if:

  • Your TV does not currently have WOW! digital equipment (the coaxial cable goes directly from the wall to the TV).
  • Your TV does not have a built-in digital tuner.

The FCC requires new TVs to have built-in tuners.  If you have a TV with a built-in North American cable ready digital tuner, you will not need a Digital Adapter in order to continue to enjoy your WOW! Basic Cable lineup.

How do I determine if my TV has a digital tuner?
You should be able to determine if your TV has a built-in digital tuner by following these steps:

1. Refer to your TV owner’s manual to determine if your TV has a built in digital tuner. If there is no information in the owner’s manual, the TV probably does not have a digital tuner. Another way to determine if your TV has a digital tuner is to look at the TV remote control. If the remote has a dot (.) or a dash (-) button, the TV probably does have a digital tuner, as those buttons are often used in programming the tuning of a digital tuner TV.

2. Connect the coaxial cable directly from your cable outlet to your television.  There should not be any other pieces of equipment connected between the cable wall outlet and the television (Digital Adapter, VCR, DVD player, etc.).

Customers in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois: Use the remote that came with your TV to tune your TV set to Channel 118-1 or 118.1, depending on whether you have a dot or dash on your remote control. If you see a box with video playing in the right portion of your screen, you will not need a Digital Adapter on that TV.  Please allow up to two minutes for video to appear.

Customers in Evansville: Use the remote that came with your TV to tune your TV set to Channel 108-104 or 108.104, depending on whether or not you have a dot or a dash on your remote control.  If you can view this channel, you will not need a WOW! Digital Adapter on that TV.

3. If your TV does not allow you to tune to the converted channel, you may need to run a channel scan. To rescan your channels:

  • Select ‘Menu’ on your TV remote
  • Select the Auto Program, Auto Tune, or Auto Scan Option
  • A scan could take as long as 45 minutes, depending on your TV set
  • Once the process is complete, all channels should be fully restored
  • If you are still experiencing trouble, please call us at 1-888-969-4249 for further assistance.

You will need to rescan your television when WOW! Cable channels are reorganized, added or removed.

What if I have a TV with a compatable built-in digital tuner?
Television sets with built-in digital tuners do not need to be connected to WOW! equipment to enjoy WOW! Basic Cable service. If your TV has a built-in digital tuner, you will need to rescan your television each time WOW! Cable channels are reorganized, added or removed.

Can I  watch my local broadcast channels in HD without attaching any additional WOW! equipment?
If you have an HD television set with a compatible built-in digital tuner, you can continue to view your local broadcast channels in HD without any additional WOW! equipment. If you do not have an HDTV set with a built-in digital tuner, you need to lease a WOW! HD Receiver in order to receive HD channels, including your local broadcast channels.

How do I order Digital Adapters?
To order additional adapters, please call 1-888-969-4249.

How do I hook up my Digital Adapter?
For online instructions click here. Self-Installation instructions are also outlined in the Digital Adapter Quick Start Guide included in your Digital Adapter Installation Kit.

Do I need to activate my Digital Adapter?
Yes. Once you have connected all your Digital Adapters to your TVs, you will need to activate them in order to begin receiving channels. To activate your Digital Adapter(s) please call 1-800-510-1110. Please have your WOW! account number available. All Digital Adapters should be connected prior to activation. After you activate your adapters, it could take up to 45 minutes to receive complete functionality.

Can I use this Digital Adapter with a VCR or DVD player?
Yes. For installing with a VCR, please refer to the additional setup options in the Quick Start Guide included with your Digital Adapter, or click here for online installation instructions. No changes should be required for use with DVD, Blue Ray or gaming devices.

How do I program my VCR to record using a WOW! Digital Adapter?

To record a program using your Digital Adapter and VCR:

1. Set your VCR to record channel 3 (4 in Cleveland) for the time the program is airing.
2. Tune the Digital Adapter to the channel you want to record.

The VCR can only record the channel that your Digital Adapter is tuned to. To record different programs at different times, you will need to change the channel on your Digital Adapter.

How does Picture-in-Picture (PIP) work with a Digital Adapter?

If your TV has Picture-in-Picture (PIP) built-in, you should still be able to use the PIP function.

In order to use this feature your TV must have at least 2 coax inputs.

If you were using PIP prior to connecting your WOW! Digital Adapter by using two TV inputs, connect the Adapter to one of the TV inputs by following these steps:

1. Disconnect one of the coax cables from the TV.
2. Plug that coax cable into the Cable IN input on the back of the Digital Adapter.
3. Plug another coax cable from the TV Out output on the Adapter to the input on the TV.

If you were not using PIP prior to connecting your WOW! Digital Adapter, or are having problems with PIP:

1. Connect the first coax cable from the wall outlet to the input on the splitter.
2. Connect the second coax cable from one of the outputs on the splitter to one of the inputs on the TV. These inputs are usually labeled “Cable In 1 and 2” or “RF In 1 and 2”.
3. Connect the third coax cable from the other output on the splitter to the input on the Digital Adapter.
4. Connect the fourth coax cable from the output on the Digital Adapter to the other input on the TV.
5. Once properly connected, follow your TV manufacturer’s instructions to activate and use the PIP feature.

Please note: One of your PIP inputs will receive the Limited Basic Cable lineup only.

What if I have TVs connected to retail converter boxes received as a result of the FCC's 2009 Digital TV Transition?
TVs using one of these retail converter boxes are able to receive over the air TV signals, and do not receive WOW! Cable channels. If your TV is connected to WOW! co-axial cable, you need to have a WOW! Digital Adapter installed to receive WOW! Cable channels on that TV.

My Digital Adapter takes too long to change the channels. What can you do about that?
We understand that the experience may be different from what you are used to. Unfortunately, there may be a slight delay when you are changing channels as the adapter works to tune from one digital signal to the next.

The Digital Adapter remote control is small and light. Is there a different remote that I can use instead?
Unfortunately, this is the only remote control that can operate the Digital Adapter. If you are interested in a different remote and taking advantage of services like an interactive program guide, please call us to learn more about WOW! Digital Cable.

My Digital Adapter remote stopped working, loses its programming or won't power off/on.
If your remote loses its programmed codes, try replacing the batteries with high quality Alkaline batteries.  When replacing the batteries, try not to push any buttons, and the codes should remain intact.
